Athlete of the Week: Andrew Stevens

Junior Andrew Stevens was selected as this week’s outstanding Athlete. Coach Julie Street feels that Stevens has been a great addition to the team.

He “could even be our next Michael Phelps,” said Street. “He has a kind personality and is a lot of fun. I think the kids really enjoy being around him, I think he is a true leader,” she added.

Stevens has been swimming since the first grade but this is his first year back since sixth grade. He placed 4th in his league at the Aqua 5 and has placed 1st or 2nd in most of his events. Among Stevens’ favorite events are the 50-free, 100-free and 100-fly.

When it comes to inspiration, Stevens said, “I’ve always been very competitive when it comes to sports so I always push myself, and I would like to get a scholarship for swimming.”

Stevens is a half-second away from breaking the 100-breast record at Lowry and one second away on both the 50 and 100-free.

“I think it has been a great season for my first one back and I feel good about my times,” Stevens said.
