Best movies to watch this holiday season

By Weston Irons Posted December 18, 2013

With Christmas rapidly approaching us, there is a multitude of different holiday movies on television daily. During ABC’s “25 Days of Christmas,” you can catch a different movie every night. Here is my list of must-watch films, during this holiday Christmas.

To start off this list we have a movie that has been one highest-grossing comedy of all time, Home Alone. In this holiday classic, Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) is left behind by his entire family, who take a trip to Paris for Christmas. Kevin must protect himself as well as his house as it is intruded upon by the burglars played by Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci. All the while, Kevin’s parents are rushing to return home and reunite with their son. This film is still watched frequently since its release in 1990.

Following Home Alone, we have a computer-animated fantasy film based on a popular children’s book, The Polar Express. In this film, a young boy who is having trouble believing in the magic of Christmas is on a journey on a train to the North Pole, along with many other children, in order to restore his Christmas spirit. Starring Tom Hanks, this is a seasonal film for the ages.

Next on the list is another comedy, starring Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel. This movie is none other than Elf. In this film, Buddy, who was raised by Elves at the North Pole, journeys to New York to meet his birth dad and actual family. On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus (Edward Asner) runs into a big problem, and it is up to Buddy to save Christmas. There’s no way you can miss this movie (mostly because they are several showings of it daily).

Last but certainly not least, is A Charlie Brown Christmas. This short animation is based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz. This has been on air annually, since 1965. This special has been honored with both an Emmy and the Peabody Award. In this classic, Charlie and his friends show the true meaning of Christmas. Watching this special never gets old, and is a special that millions of people tune into worldwide.
I know that I won’t be missing any of these during the Holiday Season, so you shouldn’t either.
