The Lowry Buckaroos got off to a strong start, and eventually held on for a victory against the Dust Devils from Dayton High School.

The scoring was started by Danny Guzman in the 10th minute of the first half. Guzman followed that up with another goal in the 20th minute to give the Bucks an early 2-0 lead.

In the 22nd, Ephrem Waite scored Lowry’s third goal of the game. And in the 34th minute, Alex Villagomez gave the Buckaroos a 4-0 advantage going into the half.

Both teams started slowly in the second half as the temperature rose, and the score remained 4-0 until the 25th minute of the second half when the Dust Devils finally broke through their scoring drought.

“It was hot. Very hot and tiring,” said junior Matt Jones about playing the game in the extreme heat.

Dayton also scored goals in the 34th and 40th minutes of the second half, but Lowry held them off to win the game 4-3.
“The first half we did well, but the second half… not so good,” said Jones.

The soccer teams are in action this Thursday, September 30 in Battle Mountain with the girl’s game scheduled for 3 p.m. and the boy’s game at 5 p.m.
