Disaster in Japan worsens

By Sydney Blankenship Posted April 20, 2011

On March 11, 2011 Japan was struck by a tsunami, and they didn’t know that the worst was yet to come.

Japan was struck by a tsunami that wiped out the North-East part of the country and killed 11,800, and 15,540 unaccounted for. The tsunami was an after effect of the 8.9 earthquake that started in the Pacific Ocean. The fourth biggest earthquake ever, right below the Northern Sumatra earthquake. And if you think that was bad enough, then think how bad it must have been for the Fukushima nuclear power plant on the coast.

The Fukushima nuclear power plant started to melt down after they could not get enough water in there to cool it. This has been Japan’s main concern throughout the whole thing. The radiation is getting worse and is now in the Pacific Ocean.

The radioactivity is seeping out of its containment vessel and is now 5 times the legal limit. The operation to stabilize the power plant is likely to take months. The basement of reactor buildings has been flooded with 60,000 tons of radiated water. And yet, you think how can this possibly get any worse.

Japan was hit with a strong aftershock with a 7.1 magnitude on April 7, 2011. It was the largest aftershock to ever happen. There have been no reported deaths, but several people have been injured. It has not affected the Fukushima power plant according to authorities.

If you want to donate any money, there are plenty of places to donate money to Japan.

This just goes to show how unpredictable the weather can be and what power Mother Nature has.
