Girls drop key league game to Spartans

Tuesday, January 17, the varsity girl’s basketball team had a big disappointment against Spring Creek. The girls were ahead for the first quarter then fell behind by 20 or more points by the second half.

The girls played a rough game and couldn’t pull a win so it was an upset for the girls and the coach. During the game, Betsy Guerrero and Taylor Johnson made the majority of the baskets that kept the team on the board. The final score was 58-31.

The Bucks tried hard but the Spartans destroyed them in their path.

Betsy Guerrero said, “We played rough and tough but just couldn’t come out on top. The Spartans were a good battle and it was an intense game.”

“The girls worked hard, but just couldn’t pull ahead in order to win the game. We still have the hopes of going to state at the end of the season,” coach Jack Smith said. “ Hopefully next game we can pull ahead and keep up our 11-2 record by having only “W’s” [wins] on the board from here on out.”

The Bucks will be back in action on Friday, January 20 at Battle Mountain to face the Longhorns.
