For the month of October, I interviewed one of many Homecoming committees. I had the opportunity to talk to Anna Gutierrez and Macie Mavity about the Royalty committee.

The royalty committee has a lot of work on their plate during the Homecoming game. This committee consists of picking out crowns, making locker decorations for the candidates, presenting awards to the candidates, making signs for the cars, handing out ballots to the sports teams so they can elect candidates, interviewing candidates, making questionnaires for the candidates, and lastly, making all of the ballots to hand out to the advisory classes so students could vote for Homecoming King and Queen. As one can see, the Royalty committee has a huge part in the halftime show of the Homecoming football game. They host a lot of behind the scene activity that no one even considers.

During the week of Homecoming was a stressful week for the Homecoming committee as Gutierrez said, “Having everything on time and making sure the candidates had everything they needed for the half-time show was one of the most stressful parts of Homecoming week.”

“It might have been stressful, but it was definitely rewarding,” explained Gutierrez.

When asked, what was your favorite part of the Royalty committee? Mavity replied, “Making the locker decorations! It’s always fun to see our candidates get recognized that way.”

As we all can see, this a complicated committee with many trials and tribulations. However, they made the halftime show look really good with all of their hard work.
