JV baseball finishes with a bang

The Lowry JV baseball team had an exciting year of baseball that consisted of great wins and not so great losses. During the Bucks toughest times this season they have kept their heads held high and stayed positive toward their next game.

“We didn’t have any grade problems, overall it was a good group of young men,” said coach Don Walton.

Lowry played Elko on the April 15 and 16 and didn’t play as well as they hoped they would have. The Bucks didn’t have a very good hitting game against Elko. Walton said that they faced two pitchers who threw the curveball very well, and the team as a whole wasn’t very good at hitting curveballs. Lowry lost all three games to Elko, but the Bucks bounced back the following week and prepared for the Spring Creek Spartans.

Before Spring Break the Bucks had only lost one game out of seven games, the loss was against Lee Vining. After Spring Break, the Bucks only won one game out of ten games. Their only win came on their last game of their season against the Spring Creek Spartans.

The Lowry Bucks finished their last game of the season winning in a stunning fashion against the Spring Creek Spartans. The Bucks and Spartans were neck and neck going into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bucks were down 11 7 and than Lowry got the bats going and put up 11 runs to go up 18-11 heading into the top of the seventh inning. But Spring Creek didn’t give up easily, they put up seven runs to tie the score 18-18. Michael Arenas got walked at the bottom of the seventh inning and on first base he got picked off and the ball got away from the first baseman. Arenas scored from first base because the Spartan defense couldn’t handle the throws made by each other. The Bucks won their final game of the season 19-18.

“My favorite part of the season was definitely team bonding because we all got along so well,” said Aaron Nelson.
