On January 8, the JV boy’s basketball team battled it out with Truckee. You could feel the suspense all throughout the game.

The game was “just really aggressive,” said sophomore Jordan Rinas.

Lowry controlled the tip. The first quarter was back and forth between the two teams. Players were flying all over the court and even into the crowd when Alejo Alarcon went to steal the ball from Truckee and flew into the audience and knocked over assistant coach Don Walton. A Truckee player with 2:15 left in the first quarter went after the ball and took out a Truckee girl’s basketball player sitting in the front row. With the final buzzer Lowry was in the lead by seven points with the score to be 11-4 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Truckee increased its aggressiveness. They sent 3 Lowry players to the charity stripe. Free throws from Bryan Noble, Dillion Bryan, Brandon Eastman, gave the Bucks a 14 point advantage. At the end of the second quarter, Lowry was leading with 21-10.

In the third quarter, Lowry had only one foul while Truckee went on a fouling spree which had its effects in the fourth quarter.

“When they lose, they get physical,” said Alarcon.

By the end of the quarter, Lowry scored 13 to Truckee’s 12 making the score 34-22 at the end of the third.

Truckee let their anger fly in the fourth quarter by giving Lowry 12 free throws. Lowry’s defense stayed strong while in the first four minutes not letting Truckee score.

“We handled the pressure a lot better than the recent games,” said Rinas.

At the end of the game, Lowry had one foul to Truckee’s 10 in the fourth quarter. With Lowry taking the win 47-31.
