JV boys escape with win

On Saturday, January 22, 2011, the Lowry Buckaroos JV boys basketball team came away with a five-point victory over Elko. Elko moved down to the 3A this season, so this was a very intense league match-up against one of Lowry’s biggest rivals. The win improved the Bucks to 9-6 overall and put them in first place in league play and they are currently on a seven-game winning streak.

“It was a bittersweet moment because we didn’t do that well and we still pulled it off,” said freshman point guard Calvin Connors.

Lowry got off to a strong start, jumping out to a 15-8 lead in the first quarter and they kept the advantage and led 24-19 at halftime. The Bucks increased their lead to nine points at the end of the third quarter before Elko made things interesting in the fourth quarter. Elko tied the score on a few separate occasions before Lowry snuck out the win by a final score of 46-41.

“We could’ve done a lot better on the defensive side and rebounding and we had a lot of turnovers also,” said Connors.

The Buckaroos are back in action this weekend with a couple of league games on Friday and Saturday when they travel to take on White Pine and West Wendover.
