On Friday afternoon the Lowry JV football team took on the JV Sparks Railroaders at Jerry Tobin football field.
Lowry gave the Railroaders a gift, after a long journey, when Michael Billingsley fumbled on the Bucks’ first possession. A Sparks defender was able to scoop it and run in for the visitors only score on the day. The extra point was blocked by AJ Ourada.
Then Bucks turned the ball over on downs but went back on offense quickly when Nick Lujan picked-off an errant Sparks’ pass.
In the second quarter, the Bucks battled to get on the board. Their efforts paid off halfway through the quarter, with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Michael Billingsley to Gus Duncan, making the score 7-6. The kick-off was onside, and rebounded off of a Railroader’s foot for the Bucks to take over in railroader 49.
The final quarter seemed more promising for the home team. Four minutes into the last quarter Kevin Boyle made the final touchdown of the night, making the score 14-6. Then came the moment everyone loves…the win.
“My favorite part was the end where we won,” said Michael Billingsley.
“I felt pretty good, we played a good game, were a good team,” said Nic Velasquez.
However, the Bucks will be working on a few things this upcoming week.
“Our offense could have played better, but our defense I think we did a pretty good job,” said Billingsley.
Hopefully, they have those problems solved, when they travel to Fernley on Friday, October 16, 2009.
