Last Friday night, Lowry’s basketball teams hosted the Battle Mountain Longhorns. The JV girls, like all the other Lowry teams, had success against the Longhorns winning 37-28 in a well-played game.

According to some of the girls, Battle Mountain was a good opponent and things were clicking during the game.

“We worked as a team and we ran our offense very well,” said sophomore Macy Alvarez.

The first quarter was fairly close, with the Lady Bucks coming out of the quarter up by two points. Going into the half, the Lady Bucks started pulling away, scoring eight more points to make the score 16-10. After the half, the Bucks kept rolling and scored 10 points. At the start of the fourth quarter, the Longhorns went on a late run, but the Lady Bucks kept scoring with Battle Mountain and held on for the 38-27 victory.

Even with a good victory over a well-coached team, the Lady Bucks are still looking to improve. Sophomore Sydney Blankenship said that the team needs to work on not fouling and Alvarez said that the team needed to work on its intensity. The Lady Bucks will travel to Ely to play White Pine on February 4 in Battle Mountain.
