JV girl’s soccer shoots to first win

On September 24 the Lowry JV soccer team did something it had not accomplished this season…they won.

Coach Sarah Bull was impressed with the girls’ effort which resulted in a 1-0 victory over Spring Creek.

“This was like no other game of the season. They came out on top giving it their all, and pushing themselves harder than ever,” Bull said.

In the first half, they didn’t come quite on the top, but in the second half, a couple of individuals played to their potential. The only goal of the game came in the 76th minute of the game when freshman Iri Gonzalez assisted Ashley McKinnon.

Gonzalez dribbled the ball up the right side of the field and passed the ball across the field to a wide-open Mckinnon who slammed it into the back of the net, scoring the one and only goal of the game. Bridget Cervantes also had a couple of opportunities to shoot but wasn’t able to find the net.

The goal may have won the game, but Spring Creek didn’t have one shot the entire game thanks in large part to defender Courtney Decker.

“She held it down in the back, and played great,” said Bull.

The players put into play the drills they worked on in practice.

“We also didn’t just listen better, but we played our hearts out, and we played aggressively, and our throw-ins were absolutely amazing, and all the skills we worked on in practice came into effect,” said freshman Sabrina Jensen.
