JV softball faces new challenges this year

JV Softball is back in action after only having a six-week season last year. The girls have been attending open gyms in order to prepare for tryouts.

This year the team will have a new coach. Ron Espinala will be coaching the girls this year. He has coached baseball for over 20 years.

“I really don’t know what to expect since I am new to softball and I don’t know the girls yet,” said coach Espinola. “It is going to be a fun season. I am excited for the new challenges that all of us will face. A lot of girls haven’t had a full season in a couple of years. It will be fun to have that experience with them. We are all going to learn a lot this year.”

Many girls are eager to get out on the field and play softball. For some, it may be their first season.

“I am looking forward to making new friends on the team. I haven’t played softball in a while so I am looking forward to getting to play again,” said freshman Allison Green.

“I am also excited to gain new skills in the sport along with working on the ones I already have,” said Green.

The girls kick off their season with a tournament in Yerington on March 4.

“I am most excited about the new friendships that I will find on the team,” said Makenna Garcia.

The team hopes for success this season.
