Life and Times of Osama bin Laden

By Brandon Eastman Posted May 17, 2011

In 1957, when Alia and Mohammed bin Laden gave birth to a son, Osama, it was just another Muslim baby being born. Little did the rest of the world know that this ordinary, everyday Muslim baby would grow up to be the leader of the biggest terrorist group we’ve ever seen, Al-Qaeda.

Of course, we all know about the 9/11 terrorist attacks, in which Osama bin Laden was the mastermind when Al-Qaeda members hijacked American planes and flew them into prominent buildings in the heart of New York City.

After those attacks, bin Laden somehow became the world’s best hide-and-seek player, with the whole world looking for him. He stayed completely out of the picture for nearly ten years. However, one of his couriers was caught and followed back to where bin Laden was potentially hiding. For months, possibly even years, United States military officials had surveillance on this possible hide-out, but bin Laden was never actually spotted. After several long meetings with advisors, President Barack Obama had to make a decision, and he chose to order the raid on the complex where they thought bin Laden was hiding.

On May 1, 2011, Navy Seals raided the complex and found Osama bin Laden. A few months before the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed, and after many worrisome years, the great country known as the United States of America can take a deep breath and know, while it’s not done yet, it will be a long time before Al-Qaeda will be able to recover from this disastrous event, in which their dear leader was taken from them.
