Lowry football falls short in first playoff game in seven years

On November 7 the Lowry Bucks varsity football team played Fernley in a playoff game. However, the Bucks fell four points short of the win which would have extended their season to the state semifinals.

Earlier this season the Fernley Vaqueros beat the Bucks 50-29.

The Bucks were 6-4 this season and they were undefeated at home.

At the beginning of the season, the coaching staff thought they had a good chance of going 6-3 and making the playoffs, said Coach Tim Billingsley.

Last season the Bucks lost every home game they played so they experienced an amazing turnaround this season. They had a lot of new players and were consequently doubted by many people this season. Never the less the Bucks won their first game of the season against the Pershing Country Mustangs 33-7. This was the Buck’s first home win in five years.

The next week the team traveled to Battle Mountain to face off against the Longhorns, the Bucks won the game 35-32.

The Bucks then had their bye week and when they came back they started league play against the Yerington Lions, they won the game 46-6 taking the Bucks record to 3-0.

The Truckee Wolverines were the Buck’s first big test, Truckee can out with the win 63-12.

The next week Lowry traveled to Susanville California to take on the Lassen Grizzlies. The Bucks started out good in that game but Lassen came out with the win, the score was Lassen 62 Lowry 8.

The next team for the Bucks was the Sparks Railroaders, it was the Bucks homecoming. The final score was the Bucks 68 and Sparks 9.

The Bucks went to Fernley to take on the Vaqueros. The Bucks lost the game 50-29.

The next week Lowry had a tough game against the Dayton Dust Devils. The Bucks beat Dayton 19-13.

Lowry traveled to Spring Creek to take on the Spartans. The last time Lowry beat Spring Creek was seven years ago, but that night the bucks beat the Spartans 38-28 and earned a playoff berth.

Then the Bucks traveled to Fernley for their playoff game but fell three points short. The final score was Lowry 19 and Fernley 22.
