Lowry freshman basketball hopes to continue dominance

The future of Lowry’s basketball is back this year and they are looking good. The freshman boys have been practicing since November 20 and have been improving their game every day.

“We are looking pretty good again this year. We have a lot of potential and guys who want to play,” said coach Grant Beatty.

The team’s first game is December 7 in Battle Mountain. Last year the freshman team won that tournament.

“We have some really good big guys this year. We lack in guard play but every day we seem to improve it,” said Beatty.

They had a scrimmage against Reno High which they won 42-31.

“Dominic Diaz stepped up and handled the ball well and made stuff happen. As a whole team we played great defense and really got after it,” said Beatty.

Last year’s freshman team only lost two games the whole year. The two losses came against schools 4A such as Damonte Ranch and Douglas. The team this year will get to go to the same tournament and hopefully beat those schools.

“We are looking forward to the State Farm Tournament this year. It’s always a great time and good experience for the kids to play someone outside of our league,” said Beatty.

The previous two years the freshman have gone undefeated in league play and were the league champions.

“Our goal at the end of the year is to have to best league team and win the league like the previous years,” said Beatty.
