Lowry kicked off Winterfest week with a pep assembly. The first week of February, from the first to the sixth, is Winterfest week for Lowry High School. To “kick off’ the week Lowry held a pep assembly for the student body.

The pep assembly began with the national anthem and the school song, played by the school’s band, then the Lowry High School dance team performed for the students and faculty. Coach John Brooks introduced the Lowry wrestling team’s lineup, after that Mrs. Dawson announced the Honorary Buckaroo, Mrs. Susan Rorex. Susan Rorex has been a part of Humboldt County’s education system for over 30 years; she began teaching at Lowry in 1976 and has taught several different classes including art, government, drama, or stagecraft. Mrs. Susan Rorex was then presented with a plaque commemorating her title as Honorary Buckaroo.

Winterfest King and Queen Candidates were then announced to the student body along with information on each candidate. Candidates for King and Queen were: Skylar Rose Estes, Christian Alcaraz, Jake Maga, Camille Lyon, Brandon Eldot, and Julissa Pulido. King and Queen, as voted for by Lowry students, are Skylar Estes and Christian Alcarez.

Closing the assembly, points for class of the year were announced with juniors leading, followed by seniors, then sophomores, and finally freshman. A game, led by Brandi Brooks, was then played by the classes, which consisted of Brandi calling an item and each class had to find it the fast and bring it to her.
