Lowry soccer dominates at home

Lowry’s varsity boys’ soccer team earned their first win of the season at home on Friday, August 10, 2010.

Lowry proved to have the home-field advantage on a sweltering August afternoon when they defeated Rite of Passage (ROP) with a final score of 5-2.

Just four minutes into the game, sophomore, Ephrem Waite set the pace for Lowry by scoring the first goal of the game. A mere three minutes afterward, freshman Carlos Aguilar scored the second goal. It seemed as if Lowry was on a roll when minutes later, ROP halted Lowry’s scoring streak by scoring a goal of their own.

However, Lowry was not about to give in, they proceeded to score three more times assisting each other as a team. Senior defender, Alex Villagomez, was leery after having heard that ROP had improved this season, “I was expecting a close game,” said Villagomez who credited their win to their superior speed and ball control in that particular game.

Villagomez is hoping that by the time Lowry plays ROP again on October 7 they will have established better communication as a team.

“We need to make sure that we are playing as a whole team, not just individuals,” said Villagomez, who is full of zeal for their next game against Battle Mountain on Friday, September 17, 2010.
