Over the weekend, the Lowry Swimmers traveled to the Northwest pool to swim against the Manogue Miners. Due to the weather, South Tahoe and North Valleys high schools were not able to attend. Both boys and girls crushed the Manogue swimmers.

The girls obtained nine first-place finishes out of the eleven races. Johana Christensen, Tori Echeverria, Eva Mercado, Karen Esparza, Laurel Clayson, and Olivia Snow all finished first in their races. Winning all her races, Johana Christensen was pleased with her meet.

“I did okay, I placed 1st in all of my events but I added a second on my times. Our team did really well, I mean we beat Manogue. It is hard to shave off those seconds on times though,” said Johana Christensen.

The girls defeated Manogue by 93 points. The Lowry Swimmers took Manogue out of their second-place standing in the league. They are now tied for first with Douglas.

For the boys, Michael Drake, Jessie Pate, A.J Jackson, and Joe Schmidt all finished first in their races. Also, the boys captured nine wins in the eleven races. Beating Manogue by an outstanding 100 points, the boy’s team is also now tied with Douglas for first place.

The final scores were:

Girls: 154 to 93

Boys: 159 to 64

On Saturday, May 7, the Lowry Swimmers will travel to Minden to compete in the Zephyr League Championships. They hope to keep their 2nd place standing in the league.
