Music Review: ‘Same Love’ by Macklemore

By Taylor LaTray Posted October 3, 2012

Straight from Seattle, Hip-Hop artist Macklemore recently released his new pro-gay single “Same Love”. This new single acknowledges the problem of gay marriage not being legalized and our country not uniting to produce one solution. Macklemore is known for his way of addressing social problems within his songs, and creating people to help find a solution.

He Bluntly begins the single by recalling his fear of being gay as a child. As an adolescent Macklemore had thought himself to be gay due to the stereotypes in the world today, and the fact that he had two gay uncles. He writes in his own blog “It was not easy to write. I struggled with how I, as a straight male, could genuinely speak upon this issue.” The way Macklemore addresses the issue shows that he does his homework and knows what he’s talking about when it comes to issues of today.

According to Huffington Post, many artists, after listening to Macklemore’s single responded by announcing their support for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) acceptance. Macklemore teams up with producer Ryan Lewis and fellow artist Mary Lambert to deliver a message that sends chills down one’s spine. Macklemore released this song as a humble way for people to acknowledge this problem, in hopes that bringing the issue to the surface could help solve it.

Macklemore will be releasing the full album, “The Heist” containing the single on October 9.
