On November 24 the Lowry Leadership class hosted The Northern Regional Student Council Conference.

The Northern Regional Student Council Conference is an event that is held for Student Councils from all Northern Nevada schools that come together to participate in numerous workshops and listen to a motivational speaker. The workshops focus on helping better prepare students for becoming future leaders in our schools and communities.

This year 16 schools across Northern Nevada attended. The keynote speaker was Ken Johnson accompanied by his son, Kendall Johnson. Ken Johnson is a well-known motivational speaker who is known for the saying, “Don’t get stuck on stupid.” Among other titles, he is the spiritual advisor for the Indianapolis Colts. His presentation emphasizes how to become a good leader.

After Ken’s presentation, two large group workshops were held; one led by Ken and his son, and the other held by Sloan Kahuhu, Lowry’s Herff Jones representative. Lunch was provided by the LHS cafeteria and in the afternoon delegates attended 18 different workshops led by students from the various schools.

Before the big day came, Esmeralda Aguilar, who is the Northern Regional Representative commented, “Leadership is a very important class. We have never put any event on quite this big, other than state. We are all very excited for this, and it should be a lot of fun.”

We feel that the conference was a success and look forward to attending the State Student Council conference in March at Reed High School.
