Lowry JV girls played fantastic on the defensive and offensive sides of the ball to pull out a good win against the Fernley Vaqueros.

The passion that coach Mendiola and her coaching staff preach on the JV girls really showed during the game against Fernley. The Lady Bucks played proficient defense that really separated them from the visiting Vaqueros. Lowry moved the ball around on offense and waited till they had an open look at the basket.

The first quarter was pretty close and both teams played exceptional defense, the score at the end of the quarter was Lowry on top 7-4. In the second quarter, Lowry put up 14 points, and only allowed Fernley to score five points.

“We played good defense which made some great things happen on offense,” said Rachel Sigurdson.

It’s said that the third quarter matters the most in a basketball game, it reveals whether you keep up the intensity and keep scoring or whether you let the other team gain momentum.

The Lady Bucks definitely came out in the second half and let the Vaqueros know that there was no way they were going to come back in the game. Lowry held Fernley to two points in the third quarter and scored eight points to make the score 29-11. The fourth quarter consisted of more great defense by the Buckaroos only allowing Fernley to score five points, the final score was 37-16. Defense was the key factor for the Lady Bucks in this game.

The Lady Buckaroos will be back in action next Friday against the Fallon Greenwave.
