Think you know Mrs. Rorex? Think again

Mrs. Courtney Rorex has been teaching at Lowry for 22 years and plans to retire in four. We know her as a quiet art, sewing, and crafts teacher but there’s a lot more to her than just that. Rorex has some pretty interesting and unusual opinions and hobbies. Rorex was asked many questions and all of her answers were unique, but there were a few in particular that caught us all off guard.

She said she would bring back corporal punishment, or physical discipline if she were the principal; however, she would never actually want to be the principal because she lived with one for so many years. She explained that she just thinks corporal punishment has merit. She continued to say that she thinks there would be fewer ‘second-time offenders’ if this was brought back. The humiliation factor played a big role back then but she realizes times have changed. She said that her father was her principal for several years, and that’s where this idea comes from. Both her parents are her role models.

“You know what? I love to travel,” said Rorex. One of her most common forms of transportation is on the back of her husband’s Harley wearing her black helmet with pink metallic flames on it. She also loves basketball and was on the drill team in high school. These are just some of the many unexpected things most students don’t know about Mrs. Rorex.

She likes to play pranks on her husband with the help of students, believes chivalry is still alive, has a phobia of black cats, loves the number 13, hates F-bombs and although she’s never been to Burning Man, she loves the artistic creativity associated with it.
