On Tuesday, May 1, The freshmen and sophomores from Lowry competed in the JV championships. Some of these runners are not just JV, plenty of them compete in JV and Varsity for more running time and will be competing again Saturday, May 5 to qualify for zone.

This meet contained all 3A freshmen and sophomores and was held at McQueen High School. Lowry was definitely a dominating force at the meet in Reno. According to coach Brinkerhoff, this meet really proved to other meets what Lowry could do with, especially when it came to girls track.

All of the relays the girls competed in they took first with a far lead had a place at least as high as 3rd in every event. the boys did not prove to be as strong as the girls in this meet. The relay boys placed second to last in all of their relays and their individual sprinting events did not go so well either. The boys who did stand out Brinkerhoff said were Morgan Dougherty who placed 3rd in the mile and Robert Stepper who also did well in his long jumping event.

“Although this meet had a lot of people they were not our toughest competition, multiple girls are expected to go to state and we’re working on our boys getting a chance as well. Everyone has been extremely focused but not at their best ability. We need to dedicate ourselves to our running and give all we’ve got to our next two meets,” said coach Brinkerhoff.

Lowry track has its next track meet Saturday, May 5, followed by zone the next week, and state the following week after that.
