It’s that time of year again. Track season is back, right before our very eyes. Will Lowry turn out some state champions again this year? Only time can tell.

According to coach Shaun Murgel, the track season went well last year and the team had some members do well at state.

Due to graduation, the track team has lost such stars as Mateo Echeverria and Desirae Lemm; but never fear, Lowry has some excellent athletes returning to the field. They include Will Thacker, Emelia Legarza, Alicia Kelly, Kirstie Ingle, and Ronnie Jo Schofield. Also returning is state champion, in the triple jump, Berenice Sanchez.

New members to the team include several freshmen and some sophomores.

When asked about how the daily workouts are coming along, coach Murgel said that it wasn’t going well, but only due to the fact that the team had to practice inside because of the weather.

Coach Murgel thinks that his team has the potential to take some members back to state, but he cannot predict how many will go yet.

He said, “I’ve got to see what the meets look like first.”

Lowry’s first track meet was March 12.
