This past weekend September 3 and 4, the Lowry varsity volleyball team split its six matches, going 3-3 in the State Farm Insurance Classic.

On Friday, September 3, the Buckaroos started off the day with a two-set defeat to the Fernley Vaqueros 25-6, 25-22. However, they followed the loss with three consecutive wins over West Wendover (25-16, 25-16), Capital High School, who traveled from Idaho to attend the tournament (18-25, 25-21, 15-8), and Spring Creek (25-9, 25-15).

When bracket play began on the morning of Saturday, September 4, the Lowry Buckaroos, once again, found themselves having to take on the Fernley Vaqueros. They got off to a fast start, but couldn’t keep the momentum, eventually falling in three sets, 25-22, 22-25, 7-15.

“I think we did really good, we may not have won, but we still had good team chemistry,” said junior Hana Etcheverry.

“As a team we did very well at hitting and passing,” said Etcheverry.

After their loss to Fernley, the Bucks were set up to face Dayton in an elimination match, which they went on to lose by a score of 25-17, 25-19.

“I think we played better, we were more in-tune, but we just couldn’t pull it all together for the whole game,” said junior Angie Herrera when comparing the team’s play to the day before.

The Buckaroos are next in action on Friday, September 10 when they travel to Fallon to take on the Greenwave. The freshman match starts at 4 p.m. with the J.V. and varsity matches following shortly after.
