The freshmen kicked off Homecoming week football on Thursday when they played Elko and were defeated 36-14.

Even though freshmen football has had a rough start, they are not giving up hope yet.

“Our season is going good. These last couple weeks, we have been becoming a team and working together, but we still have some kinks to work out,” said freshman Taylor Aitken.

The freshmen football team has shown tremendous improvement since their first game.

“We’ve improved a lot as a team since our first game. Even though we have had improvement, we still have a long way to go. I’m nervous to play Elko because they beat Fernley, and Fernley beat us 36-0. I’m hoping my team can go out there and give Elko a run for their money,” said player Ren Mattson.

However, other players have a different opinion on how the season is going.

“Our season is going alright. We need to work on playing as a team and not getting down on each other when other teammates do something wrong. Our downfall during Elko was when we would get a penalty; we would just give up playing. We need to keep our [team unity] up and come together as a team. Being a team will get us farther than anything else will,” said player Seth Hornbarger.

The freshmen will play Sparks on October 16 at Sparks.
