Varsity baseball drops series to Sparks during season opener

The Bucks did not start the season they were hoping for as they were swept by Sparks in a three-game series. Lowry lost their first regular season game 15-6 on Friday and then lost twice more the next day 12-2 and 12-11.

During the first game, the Bucks put two runs on the board in the top of the first. Unfortunately, Sparks responded with a grand slam and eight runs of their own during the bottom of the second. After that, it was all Sparks, as they were able to score seven more runs including another grand slam. The 15 runs were just too much to overcome as they went on to lose by nine.

After re-evaluating their performance from the previous day, the Bucks wanted to get ahead and pick up wins in the next two games, but that would not be the case as the Buckaroos were 10-runned in the first game 12-2 and lost the second game 12-11 off of a Sparks walk-off sacrifice fly.

Senior outfielder Wyatt Snider is a bit unhappy with the opening weekend of play but thinks the team can learn from the experience and get things in check.

“Well it’s not the start we wanted, so we are going to move on and get better. We have good coaches and managers to help us figure it out,” said Snider.

The season continues with the home opener against Elko this Friday at 3 p.m., and then again at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
