Lowry beat Elko 5-2 in a game that Lowry put away in the late innings on Friday, March 20.
Through the first two innings, neither team could seem to get much going on the offense side of the ball, but in the bottom of the second inning, Lowry took a 1-0 lead only to see their lead evaporate in the third inning when Elko stormed back to take the lead 2-1.
In the 4th and 5th innings Lowry scored four runs to put the game out of reach, the last two innings Lowry held off Elko and kept them scoreless in order to beat Elko 5-2.
Sterling Dennis is a senior on varsity that can play just about any position on the field and he says the team really came together to get this win.
“We became a lot more of a team during the game and stayed focused throughout,” said Dennis.
Lowry did go on to lose the next two games in the series and Dennis believes the difference in the games were just the little things.
“We hit the ball in the Elko game better when we had runners in scoring position and we also fielded the ball better. Colin [Doyle] did a great job pitching in the first game and we backed him up in the field and batting,” said Dennis.
Lowry plays Friday against Dayton at 3 p.m.
