This issue’s top athlete is a hardworking, athletic young man who succeeds in the classroom and on the field. This young man is Donovan “Donnie” Brumm.
Brumm plays football in the fall and in the spring he plays baseball. Brumm has also wrestled in the past, but no matter what sport he does, he performs his absolute best all the time. Currently, Brumm is playing baseball and shows his talent pitching but his main position is catcher.
Brumm loves to play sports because it keeps him active, which is important to him. He also plays sports because he gets to hang out with his friends and do something he loves to do.
“My brother Tyler who is a sophomore at the University of Utah, and my Mom and Dad are very supportive of me and my sports. They always try to come to my games no matter how far away they may be,” said Brumm.
Not only is his family supportive, they’re who got him involved in athletics in the first place.
“Ever since I was little my parents drove me to be the best I can be by striving to do well in school and work hard in sports.”
Due to the fact that Brumm got involved in athletics at a very young age, he shares many cherished memories with past and current teammates.
“Back in Little League I was on an All-Star team and we made it to state that year by playing Fernley and winning by a walk-off,” said Brumm.
He also has a few not-so-cherished memories.
“My Sophomore year we went down to Faith [Lutheran] for football and ended up losing by two touchdowns and then they went on to win the state championship.”
Brumm doesn’t let failures bring him down and he is always looking for ways to improve.
“Maybe I could work more in the off-season for other sports and be more well-rounded as an athlete.”
Brumm is fortunate to have a brother from whom he derives guidance and inspiration.
“Watching my brother [Tyler] as he’s grown up and being able to see him start to go through high school and college has really driven me.”
Brumm’s family is a big reason why he continues to play. Fortunately, sports do not interfere with his academics.
“I’ve been top ten in my class every year because I really work hard in school and it really reflects how I’ve been able to push myself. I’ve always been successful in high school sports; we’ve always had winning teams as far as every sport I’ve played in. We haven’t been able to win that state championship, but always being around winning and striving to be our best has been awesome,” said Brumm.
Brumm’s future plans make it clear that he hopes to be involved in athletics for the rest of his life.
“I’m going to go to Boise State because their Athletic Training program is one of the best and hopefully I will become a student trainer on one of the sports teams. I want to stay around sports as much as I can and be involved at the collegiate level. It’s an awesome level to work with,” said Brumm.
Brumm was sure to outline all of the other benefits of pursuing his passion.
“Obviously I want to have a good-paying job that allows me to live without worry so I have the drive to get a job where I can have fun, do what I love, and be successful all at the same time,” said Brumm.
