The varsity softball team came into the weekend sitting on the top of the league and were in good shape to play Fallon, a team that wasn’t too far behind them. After the first day, things were looking up for the Bucks as they won the first game of the series by a score of 9-3. Unfortunately during the second day, the games got away from the Buckaroos and they were defeated by Fallon by scores of 9-6 and 11-5.
The league standings now look a little different as Fernley sits in first, Fallon in second, and both teams are followed closely by Lowry in third. But now the Bucks are poised and ready to retake the first-place spot with their remaining games, some of which include a series against Fernley.
Shortstop Kylee McClellan is confident the team can take away a lot from this weekend and learn from it.
“We are very competitive when we show up to play. We are a strong team defensively as well as offensively,” said McClellan. “The games this weekend were a big test for us and we just need to string together a few things. We have the ability to go so far this season and I’m very confident in our team.”
Freshman outfielder Alyssa Kuskie had similar opinions as fellow teammate McClellan on the games over the weekend.
“We started the first game really well our bats were going and our defense was solid,” said Kuskie. “In the other two games, we had a few defensive errors and a couple of bad innings. We were only getting a few good hits here and there, and that killed us! But overall we played well and we will be ready to beat Fallon when we see them again.”
The season continues with a series against Truckee in their territory on April 17 and April 18. The Bucks hope to rebound against the Wolverines and will be working hard at practice in the meantime.
