This past season, the girls’ varsity basketball team played a total of twenty-nine games and only lost five of them.
Coach Chelsea Cabatbat explained why she was impressed with the girl’s effort.
“I am very proud of my team. We had a fantastic season this year. The girls always gave 100% and worked very hard. In the end, we only lost to 2 teams all season, that is something to be very proud of,” said Cabatbat.
Junior Alyssa Kuskie stated her thoughts on the State championships.
“It was a pretty fun experience. It was the first time I’ve been to Vegas for a tournament, and it was fun to play there. We played Moapa Valley first and then Fallon for the State Championship,” said Kuskie.
The scores for those two games were 61-42 win against Moapa Valley and a 54-38 loss against Churchill County.
“I think the girls played great. We had to change things up against both teams, and we played a style that we are not used to,” said Cabatbat.
Kuskie commented that the season couldn’t have turned out better.
“I thought it was an amazing season. We were one of the only teams to make it to state and not only state, but the championship. That’s an amazing accomplishment. I do not regret anything from this season or wish we did something better,” said Kuskie.
Cabatbat, however, has advice for the upcoming varsity team.
“I know that over the summer, the girls must hit the weight room and work on getting stronger and also quicker. We also must put time in the gym in order to get better,” said Cabatbat.
