Varsity baseball traveled to Spring Creek to play the Spartans on March 17-18 to play a three-game series, but left winless against the Spartans.
Although the games started well, the team was not consistent.
“We started each game off well but fell into old habits and made too many mistakes in all aspects of the game to be able to come away with a win,” said coach Ron Espinola.
Pitcher, Ren Mattson agreed with Espinola’s assessment. Mattson also thought the team underestimated the Spartans and the lead they would gain on Lowry during the three games.
“We had a strong start for the most part, but we lacked in all angles that we should’ve easily fixed in the game, yet we failed to realize how good Spring Creek really was, especially the big lead they gained in every game,” said Mattson.
One of Lowry’s pitchers, Anthony Good, gave his side of the game in terms of the team’s pitching and how they compared to Spring Creek’s players.
“We really tried to put up a solid game against Spring Creek, but fell short of having those extra outs on them to help us get more hits in and try to keep a consecutive flow of reducing their players on base,” said Good.
Espinola hopes the team can fix these errors.
“It seems that each game had a turning point where we grouped mistakes together and gave up a big inning,” said Espinola. “This was our issue last year, and it is something we, as a coaching staff, have to find a way to rectify.”

The result of the first game was a 17-2 Spartans win.
Lowry’s second game resulted in a score of 11-4. The Buckaroos started off well with an early 4-1 lead. But Spring Creek bounced back to secure the win, outscoring the Bucks 10-0 down the stretch.
With the final game, the score resulted 11-1, and Lowry lost their third and final game against Spring Creek. Lowry started the game off trailing behind 4-0 to eventually lost to Spring Creek’s big lead as the game progressed.
Varsity baseball will host Elko on March 31.
