Elko came to town to face off against the JV Buckaroo team, who have been having a successful season. Their season only continued to get better as Elko fell to them in a close game, 20-19. Their record is now 5-2.

Head coach Austin Mayo is happy with the way his team has matured over the season.

“This team is really starting to learn how to win,” said Mayo. “There were a couple of games where our players expected to win and understood their skill level, but they did not realize that no one was going to hand it to them. We are getting over that hump and learning not to panic when things go wrong.”

Mayo also claimed that their success has been a team effort.

“We have really tried to emphasize that regardless of playing time and regardless of each player’s position, everyone on the team has a role to play, and in order to be successful, every player needs to embrace that role, and perform that role at 100% and I think our players are doing that,” Mayo said.

Sophomore running back Anthony Barber ran in for the first touchdown for the Bucks, and sophomore quarterback Brendan Domire charged in for the final two.

Domire is having an impressive season and is very happy with the way his team has improved throughout the season.

“We’ve improved a lot,” said Domire. “We’ve learned to work as a team, and we’ve really taken our game to the next level. Everything is clicking pretty well for us.”

The Bucks’ next game will be Friday, October 14. They will face off against the Sparks Railroaders.
