JV Lady Bucks strive for more wins

This season, the JV girls have been nothing but confident in themselves. Although coach Amy Jenkins is aware of some mistakes the team has made, she remains positive as well.

“I think the season has been pretty good so far,” said Jenkins. “We have had some pretty physical games, and the team has responded well. The Spring Creek game was an eye-opener for us; we have to play for four full quarters and not let up at all.”

Spring Creek was a tough game, but players didn’t let that get to them, given the 43-34 win.

“It definitely wasn’t one of our better games,” said Hailey Fernandez. “We struggled a lot in the beginning, working as a team and making things happen on the court. We definitely pulled it together towards the end of the game and ended up finishing with the win.”

Although some players state that it wasn’t the best play they’ve had, others may not see it that way.

“Despite the few weak spots that we had, this was definitely one of our better games,” said Juli Garcia. “Our defense at the beginning of the game was one of those weak spots. We weren’t closing out, and I think that is what got Spring Creek most of their points. In the second half, we were now playing tough defense. So, those weak spots definitely cleared up.”

Like any sport, there will always have to be some mistakes that need to be fixed.

“I think we need to improve at playing on our own level and not playing on the other teams’ level. We could also work on our shooting and our rebounding, both offensively and defensively,” said Fernandez.

Regardless of different opinions, the teammates are close on and off the court.

“There’s no doubt about it, we work great as a team,” said Fernandez. “We have grown up playing together, and it’s obvious when we step on the court.”

Coach Jenkins also feels that her team is worthy no matter where they are on the court.

“I have a great group of girls who need to keep working and be positive,” said Jenkins. “There will be times when everyone doesn’t get the same amount of playing time as others, but being on the bench is just as important as being on the floor.”

In short, these girls will stay up and stay strong no matter what gets thrown at them.

“I think the season has been great so far, and having teammates like the ones I have makes the season ten times better,” said Garcia.

Their next game is December 19 against North Valleys in Reno.
