The varsity girls’ soccer team finished 4-11-1 this season. Despite the outcomes of their games, they put up a great fight. Coach Jennifer Partee can attest to that.
“I think it’s no secret that we’re disappointed in our wins/losses record, but as far as the level of play of the team, they’ve definitely increased on that [level of play],” said Partee. “They’ve become better and stronger players. Their formations were stronger; skills were better.”
The team has been able to keep up the effort despite the difficult plays.
“The players, and the team as a whole, have been working towards competing at a higher level and being able to do that. I think that they’ve done well with that this year,” said Partee.
Junior Erin Acosta thinks she and her team worked as hard as they could.
“I think the season turned out better than I expected,” said Acosta. “We worked hard on getting into shape for soccer, and there were some things we could have done better, that hopefully next year we’ll improve on, but it is what it is, and I’m just glad that I was able to make it onto varsity and work with a great team.”
According to Partee, Lowry played close games with good defense.
“They really kept the scores of the games low,” said Partee. “We lost quite a few games, the scores were very low; they were tight.”
Victoria Tirado, a junior, knows there are things she and the team could have worked on.
“As a team, we could’ve worked on some more passing and ball control, but other than that, we did fine,” said Tirado. “Individually, I could’ve been a little more positive towards some of the situations.”
Partee has plans for improvement for the upcoming season.
“We have a couple of things we’re working on in practice, but the biggest thing is hitting the net,” said Partee. “If we can get the ball in the net, we’d be on top. We had a lot of shots on goal this year, but unfortunately, they just didn’t connect with the goal. If we could improve that, especially under pressure, then we’ll be doing well.”
