Ever wonder who will be your boss someday? Well, look no further than the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
“FBLA is a great opportunity. You get to meet a lot of really cool people, have many awesome experiences, travel, and learn skills that will open doors in the future,” said Sabrina Jensen.
The mission of FBLA is to bring together business and education. It can teach students leadership and business skills, introduce them to career possibilities, and allow the interaction of students who live on either side of the country.
“FBLA has opened my eyes to all the opportunities out there, which will be beneficial for the future,” said Tiana Herrera. “Also, the people who are in FBLA with me make it ten times better.”
People participate in FBLA for a number of reasons. Overall, it is a good look into a career in business.
“I joined FBLA my freshman year because Mrs. [Lisa] Scott thought it would be helpful because a lot of events in FBLA involve what we do in Yearbook,” said Amaya Herrera. “And, looking back, it was a really great decision because of all the skills I have acquired in just two years, all of the different events I have got to experience, and because of all the people I’ve had the chance to meet.”
There is also something to the business formal dress code and intellectual skills.

“Personally, I do FBLA for the experience in the world of business,” said Brycen Prokasky. “That, and I just really like to present stuff and sound legit.”
In April, Lowry’s FBLA members are traveling to Las Vegas for the FBLA State competition.
“I’m excited for state this year because of the events I’m participating in and just because of all the people that are going to state this year,” said Amaya Herrera.
There they will compete in events they have been preparing for all year, like Desktop Publishing and Public Speaking. Prior to State, they will have taken tests based on their events, such as Business Math, Business Law, and Cyber Security.
“I have some pretty high expectations for state this year, we’ve been gearing up and were ready to go show Vegas how we handle business up here in the ‘Mucc,” said Prokasky. “I also think that we have plenty of members who placed in the top five in events last year coming back as returners, so we have plenty of experience on our side.”
Lowry’s FBLA is looking good this year, and they have their eye on the prize, Nationals. Lowry sent eight students to Nationals last year, which was held in Nashville, Tennessee. This year, it will be taking place in the Silver State, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Last year, Lowry sent many of students to Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee.
“I loved nationals. I met a lot of great people and learned a lot of things in the workshops I attended,” said Elise Rose.
Lowry student and FBLA participant Tiana Herrera looks back on last year’s Nationals and is excited for this year.
“Nationals was a lot of fun,” said Tiana Herrera. “All the people that we went with were great, especially the moms. Nationals taught me how to get out of my comfort zone, and a lot of responsibility skills. This year will be challenging because I’m participating in some new events, but I’m excited.”
