Most seniors graduate and move right along with the next chapter of their lives. So let’s look at a couple of students from the class of 2014 who are doing something with their lives.
One highly aspiring Lowry graduate is Maeve Donovan, who is currently attending school at the University of San Francisco.
“At this point, I’m working towards going to law school with a focus on immigration law. I’m an International Studies major with minors Spanish in Classics. I’m a mess,” said Donovan.
Donovan shares words of wisdom with this year’s graduates.
“School is a wonderful challenge. You think you’ll never adjust, but within the first week, it feels like this has always been your life. It feels natural, like every phase of life happens at the right time. Growing up happens without you realizing it. Leaving Winnemucca and Lowry makes you love them more than you ever did living in them. Love where you are: don’t be afraid to leave,” said Donovan.
Another top-notch Lowry graduate is Carlos Aguilar. He left Winnemucca and went to play soccer for Southwestern Oregon Community College. He is currently indecisive as to where he will be next year, but he has many options.

“I have been called to play with an MLS and PDL soccer team, which is semi-professional and professional soccer,” said Aguilar. “I got tryouts with both the young players and the old ones and made the team on both. So that is one of my options. But if I want to keep furthering my education, I can transfer to OSU and play soccer there because I also got recruited by OSU at a tournament, so that’s also a possibility. I also got recruited by Chico State, but I don’t know where I want to go yet.”
So the post-high school life is obviously treating Aguilar well.
Dain Maher is currently serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in El Salvador.
“I am currently working on the outskirts of the second largest city in El Salvador, Santa Ana,” said Maher. “I have been here for 10 months, and I now speak fluent Spanish. It is hot here! It’s about 90 degrees every day and 90 percent humidity. Plus, right now, I am living just about at the top of a volcano, but I love it. The people are awesome, and I am really enjoying my time here.”
Hopefully, all the other students from the Class of 2014 are doing well also, and hopefully the Class of 2015 can learn something from their example. You can do whatever you want; the possibilities are endless, and these three are perfect examples of that.
