It’s crazy to know we’re already thinking about next year. About a month ago, students heard speeches from multiple candidates running for a class or student body office. Maybe who you voted for didn’t get elected, but let’s see who is going to be running the school next year.
Going into the election, each of the candidates had their own reasons for running.
“I ran for office because it’s something I’ve always had my mind set on, I knew I wanted to be Student Body President,” said Madison Mayo.
“I ran for an office because I want to make my senior year the most memorable year they’ve had and to make graduation super cool,” said Maclyn Crnkovich.
“I ran for office because I have always wanted to get involved with student government, and I wanted to put my ideas into action,” said Madison Montero.
The Freshman class officers are President Erin Acosta, Vice President Julianne Montero, and Secretary-Treasurer Brooke Hansen.

The Sophomore class officers are President Maddie Riley, Vice President Brayden Jensen, and Secretary-Treasurer Sylvie Prokasky.
The Junior class officers are President Madison Montero, Vice President Annaleise Gabica, and Secretary-Treasurer Olivia Silva.
The Senior class officers are President Kailynn Yetter, Vice President Maclyn Crnkovich, and Secretary-Treasurer Natalie Ellifritz.
Student body officers are President Madison Mayo, Vice President Kylie Hilbish, Secretary Nate Nelson, Treasurer Omar Guerrero, and Historian Megan Villarreal.
The goals of all the officers are fairly similar. To involve everyone, create more school spirit, and make the school a generally better place. Here are some of the ideas for next year from the student body president.
“Next year is my senior year, so I want to make it the best and want everyone to experience what they’ve all been waiting three long years for,” said Mayo. “I want to improve school spirit and unity for sure. But a big thing for me is I want to increase involvement and awareness in our community and create a stronger connection between Lowry and Winnemucca as a whole.”
Senior class president, Crnkovich, has similar thoughts concerning the senior year for the Class of 2016.
“Next year for Lowry, my goal is to make not only my senior year better for all my classmates, but to make Lowry a better school as a whole and promote school spirit as much as I can,” said Crnkovich.
Junior Class officers Montero and Gabica both have great ideas to bring to the table next year as they put their heads together.
“Next year, I plan to unite our class more than ever before and work to break down social stereotypes,” said Montero. “I think that everyone should have the chance to become more involved with our school and express their class spirit.”
“As far as the next school year is concerned, I plan on hosting an amazing prom and preparing my class for our senior year, both financially and experience-wise,” said Gabica. “I hope to improve the unity among my class next year and involve students who aren’t normally involved.”
Student body V.P., Hilbish, does a great job summing up everything that has been said.
“Next year’s student body and I definitely want to make next year unforgettable,” said Hilbish. “We want to get the students more involved, so we’re going to try to have more assemblies, dances, and such. I think next year will be one for the books, honestly.”
