Lowry High School senior Gabe Lange has been a staple in Buckaroo athletics, dedicating his time and effort to multiple sports throughout his high school career. From football to baseball and even managing the basketball team, Lange has always been involved in the game.

Lange’s athletic journey began in first grade when he first stepped onto the field for football and T-ball. Over the years, he’s played several sports, but one stands out as his true passion.

“Football is definitely my favorite,” said Lange. “That’s always been the thing I’ve worked on the hardest. I find a lot of joy in it, and I’ve learned a lot of life lessons—like when you get knocked down, always come back up and never give up.”

Lange’s leadership and work ethic have been noticed, especially by his football coach, Taua Cabatbat.

“Gabe Lange has played football at Lowry High School for four years,” said Coach Cabatbat “In those years, Gabe has done a great job being a leader for us in the trenches, playing on the offensive and defensive line. Gabe was always undersized for his position, but did a great job playing to his strengths. He played for his teammates and for Lowry High School with pride and passion. It has been a pleasure watching Gabe develop into a student-athlete here at Lowry High School.”

Beyond his athletic ability, Lange has also been recognized for his character.

“A true leader is humble, and Lange is,” said Coach Cabatbat. “He owns up to his faults. All people make an occasional error as we grow, but Gabe accepts this and rarely makes the same mistake twice. This kind of mentality will take a human to great places, and I fully expect Gabe to be outstanding in all he does.”

Lange’s leadership goes to baseball as well. Baseball coach Brent Riemersma highlighted the respect Lange has earned from his teammates.

“Gabe was voted by his teammates as a Captain for the 2025 season. Every one of his teammates looks up to him. He is a true gamer when it comes to baseball,” said Riemersma.

Known for his tireless work ethic, Lange sets an example for his peers.

“Gabe’s work ethic is contagious. He is willing to put in the work to improve on whatever aspect of the game he feels he needs to improve on,” said Riemersma. “He loves to help a teammate who is willing to take his advice.”

Leadership comes naturally to Lange, and his presence on the field is invaluable.

“On the baseball diamond, he is always demanding the best from his teammates,” said Riemersma. “His communication skills are exactly what we need.”

While sports have played a huge role in Lange’s life, he also recognizes their impact beyond competition.

“I play sports because it keeps me busy and out of trouble,” said Lange. “I feel like I stay more focused on school when I have something to work for.”

After graduation, Lange plans to shift his focus from playing to coaching. He intends to attend Truckee Meadows Community College for two years before transferring to the University of Nevada, Reno, where he will pursue a teaching degree and hopes to coach college football someday.

Lange knows he’s not perfect and could have done something differently.

“I think I could have improved more in the off-seasons. I’m not saying I did badly, but I needed to put in more work,” said Lange.

Outside of athletics, Lange stays active in other ways, playing golf or pickleball when the weather allows, hanging out with friends, or spending time with his family. His parents, Joshua and Amber Lange, have been a major influence.

“They’ve always supported me. I can count on one hand the number of games they’ve missed,” said Lange. “They’ve always made sure I was good and pushed me to be better.”

Lange is most proud of his leadership accomplishments.

“Even as a freshman, I felt like I could lead a team. Not just by being vocal, but by helping others get better,” said Lange.

His leadership on the football field earned him Honorable Mention for All-League as an offensive lineman.
