Lowry came up short in a close match to The Green Wave last week; Lowry couldn’t get any momentum on their side and overall struggled throughout the day.
Brian Shettler plays center back for the varsity soccer team and is a big part of the soccer team’s defense.
Communication was a clear problem in the loss, and that is left to a lack of effort from the team.
“We needed to work harder on both sides of the field and earn better opportunities to score goals,” said Shettler.
Lowry got off to a slow start and gave up an early goal to Fallon in the first half. After the first goal was scored the players were clearly affected.
“After Fallon scored we started to put our heads down and began to just throw the blame around, everyone seemed to lose any sense of momentum that we had,” explained Shettler.
During the second half, the team tried to mount a comeback and came out with more energy and more physicality.
“We had a much stronger second half with more hustle and confidence, we allowed a perimeter goal late in the second half but after the goal we pushed for better offensive opportunities but couldn’t capitalize on them,” said Shettler.
Lowry also played Sparks last Saturday but failed to get anything going against a well-prepared Sparks team, the score was 4-1 Sparks.
While the score does not indicate that the game was close, Lowry did compete with Sparks and put up a good fight throughout both halves but just couldn’t defend against the constant attacks put on by Spark’s talented strikers and mid-fielders.
”We knew we were facing a tough team going into the game but I thought overall that our team gave out a good effort despite the loss,” said Snider
Sparks gained momentum early on by putting on a nonstop stream of attacks that put the Rail Roaders up 1-0 by the half. The defense played solid during the first half and Lowry was getting chances on the offensive end but couldn’t convert any of the shots.
“The game was rather exciting, if we would have scored on a couple more tries it would have been closer but the team played hard,” said Snider.
In the second half, Lowry gave up three more goals but also scored one. The defense broke down and the offense couldn’t convert on most of their shot attempts.
