Lowry defeated Spring Creek 59-47 on Friday to secure themselves a second seed in the league and then lost against league rivals, Elko, 58-37 in their final game of the regular season. Despite the loss, the Bucks, are looking good going into ZONE and are hoping to make another return trip to the state tournament.

In the first game of the weekend, the Bucks were determined to avenge an earlier buzzer-beater loss to the Spring Creek Spartans. The Spartans kept the game close for the first three quarters, but could not contain the Bucks in the fourth as the Bucks out-scored the Spartans 22-11 to put the game out of reach. Winning this game ensured that the Buckaroos would once again play the Spartans in the Zone tournament.

The Bucks came the next day ready to play and one-up their rivals. The Bucks would not get the first seed in the tournament by defeating Elko but the satisfaction of winning against your rival is better than anything else. Unfortunately, the Bucks fell short, losing 58-37. Lowry put up a much better performance than when they played against Elko earlier this season. They have come a long way and it definitely shows.

Junior center Nathan Lutzow believes the team has progressed well and will perform well in the remainder of the season. Lutzow is currently the top scorer for the Bucks.

“We have come a long way. We have practiced hard and have always had our goals in mind. Right now, that goal is to beat Spring Creek in Fallon,” said Lutzow.

Senior point guard Sterling Dennis is very confident in the team’s ability and believes they have a great chance at the state title.

“I am very proud of our team, we have become closer and have learned how to play with each other. We are all brothers and I am happy to call them my teammates. This week we need to be focused and ready to play against Spring Creek. I know we can beat Spring Creek because I know we play much better as a team than they do,” said Dennis.

The season continues Friday in Fallon as the Bucks take on Spring Creek in what Dennis believes is the most important game of the season.
