The varsity boys’ basketball team has had an interesting start to their season. After losing an intense game to the Fallon Greenwave by one point, they dropped another one-point deficit to the Spring Creek Spartans on Tuesday, December 13.
The Bucks were down five after the first quarter, but came back strong in the second and third quarters. The boys managed to score 16 in the second quarter to tie the ballgame going into halftime.
Going into the final quarter, the Bucks had a one-point lead, and the game came down to the final seconds of the buzzer, where they were unable to make a shot to win the game. The final score of 47-46 put the Buckaroos 0-3 in league and 0-7 overall.
Despite the tough start, the Bucks remain positive and can still see good things happening on the court.

“Our effort is great this season. We are putting together solid games and seeing improvement every game,” said junior Dylan Kalkoske.
The season is only beginning, and as the team is still learning to find chemistry with two sophomores and freshman Kobe Stoker, the team still has many things to work on during practice.
“We need to work on our defense and learn to run plays longer to run down the clock. It is putting together the little pieces of the puzzle that’s when we will start winning games,” added Kalkoske.
The Bucks remain optimistic about their future.
“Our team is pretty young. We only have three seniors, so the future of the program looks promising. As far as this season goes, our goal is to make it into the top six of our league to make it to the playoffs,” said senior Brady Lange.
The Bucks’ next game will be at home against Reed on December 20. The Buckaroos will be hosting the playoffs this year on February 16-18.
