Lowry boys varsity basketball team heads to Reno, December 1, to play in the Wild West Shootout at Manogue High School. The tournament lasts for three days as top high school teams throughout the west battle it out to win the Championship.
Teams from all around Northern Nevada and the Sacramento area come to play. Bishop Manogue High School, Douglas High School, Folsom High School, Jesuit High School, Saint Mary’s High School, Servite High School, and Spanish Springs High School will all be playing in the Wild West Shootout.
The Wild West Shootout helps raise money for the UNR Early Childhood Autism Program. From a Wild West Shootout press release, Dr. Tomas Hinojosa, Sierra Kids Foundation president, said, “This is a great family event, celebrating high school basketball players from throughout the area, but the best part is that it raises money to help children with autism, along with their families.”
Jesuit High School from Sacramento, CA returns as the three-time Wild West Shootout Champions. They are the top competitors of this competition that everyone is looking to take out of the competition.
Chad Peters talked about how this is by far one of the toughest tournaments he has taken his team to, and they are in for a competition.
Chad Peters, coach of the varsity basketball team, said, “This is by far one of the toughest tournaments I have ever taken our team to. We are going to have to compete at a very high level just to keep up. Servite HS and Jesuit HS are two top teams from CA, and Jesuit is the defending state champs. Plus, we have Reno before the tournament starts, then we open up the tournament with Manogue, which are two of the better teams in the North. I’m anxious to see how our boys will do. December will be very challenging for this year’s team.”
