Grant Beatty seems to be a quiet, laid-back person, but in reality, is extremely competitive.
According to Beatty, who has coached freshman and JV basketball and varsity track, he coaches for the competition and to see the growth in his athletes.
“I really love sports. I love competing as an athlete. I love being in sports as an adult really fun to help kids find success and see them have fun doing it and grow,” said Beatty. “I like winning, I really like winning. It’s really fun to see the kids grow and really develop and come together. It’s really fun to see them make that jump to the varsity level, see them contribute, see them continue on their athletic careers.”
Junior Blake Jauregui was on JV basketball and liked the way Beatty coaches.
“He is a fun coach, but he knows when it’s time to get serious and pushes us to do our best and to be the best on the court,” said Jauregui. “Beatty is very involved with us and is a very determined coach because he knows what we are all capable of.”
Junior Julianna Gonzalez was on the track team and appreciated Beatty and the way he coached them.
“Beatty is a very good coach, he brings the team up, tells us to keep our heads up, and to not give up under any circumstances. He pushes us to our limits and makes us better,” said Gonzalez.

Assistant coach Don Walton is very fond of coach Beatty.
“Coach Beatty is a great teacher,” said Walton. “He breaks skills into simple components so his players can build on those fundamentals to increase their overall skill.”
The style and way Beatty coaches varies depending on the sport he is coaching at the time.
“In basketball, it varies. I try to be hands-on, try to interact with the kids as much as I can. Sometimes, I can be a little intense. I try to be a little calm, I try to use humor, all those things,” said Beatty. “In track, I think it’s a little different, it’s more of a managing style try to make sure my position coaches are good, that the athletes are handling their responsibilities on and off the field, more like a manager role.”
Sophomore Anthony Gildone was on the JV basketball team and believes Beatty is a great coach.
“Coach Beatty is a great coach. I like the way he coaches, it brings everybody together, and he is a very helpful coach,” said Gildone.
Winning and being the best is a goal, but Beatty focuses on what is more important: the athletes.
“I really enjoyed coaching basketball,” said Beatty. “I love basketball, and the games are intense. I get into them. I love getting a group of guys together and helping them grow and helping them find the chemistry and see the end of the year results.”
