On Saturday, November 7 Rebecca Kuskie, a new member of Lowry Cross Country, traveled to Rancho San Rafael State Park to compete at state.

Cross Country has been working hard since the beginning of the summer. They train by sprinting laps, jogging in the desert, up hills and even running in water, they practice and compete in extremely hot and cold weather conditions.

Rebecca Kuskie a freshman has made an impression on coaches and other runners in the division. Kuskie competed at state, the sole representative of Lowry High School, and he left holding 17th place for the state of Nevada.

Competing against six other division 1A schools including Spring Creek, Tahoe, Truckee, Elko, Faith Lutheran, Boulder City, and SECTA Kuskie finished with a time of 22 minutes flat.

“Next year I want to improve on the hills and get a better start,” said Kuskie

Kuskie and every other runner compete in a race 5,000 meters long, about three miles long, this includes running up hills down hills, and even through water. Kuskie started off the season running the course in 23:12.69. Each race she improved her time dramatically.

With Cross Country coming to an end, this year’s competitors are looking forward to next season.
