Football drops key game to Elko

Play by play, yard by yard, both Lowry and Elko fans were on the edges of their seats for the entire four quarters waiting for the final buzzer to sound. In a heartbreaking situation, the Buckaroos fell to Elko 21-0.

Elko scored within the first few minutes of the first quarter, and Lowry’s defense stepped up and held them until the fourth quarter when Elko scored not only once again but twice.

“As a team, we worked great defensively. We need to work harder up front and the way we play mentally,” said offensive lineman Anthony Hummel.

The defensive side had control over Elko but the offense seemed to struggle as they lost Garrett Naveran early in the game when he broke his collar bone and couldn’t quite work things out accordingly. The offense was also set back due to some penalties causing them to punt the ball more than they expected.

“Our defense played exceptionally throughout the whole game. However, a few penalties against us set our offense up in a bad position and we punted a lot more than we wanted to. The loss of Naveran was also huge in the outcome of the game. Overall it was a dogfight game by both teams and I hope we get the opportunity to play them once again,” said senior Chris Tyree.

Lowry will try to get back on track against Sparks next Friday at home.
