Career Center Adviser Cherese Fifield organized the field trip.
“This was the first year for the Freshmen Mining Career Expo. It took a lot of work and dedication from our local Mining Industry,” said Fifield. “We wanted to show the students that there are a lot of career opportunities within the mining industry from breaking rock to reclamation and everything in between Profession. It was a day of information, and they even got a free lunch.”
The presenters spoke about how mining is a successful business and students should consider going into the field. Miners get paid well and there are a lot of job opportunities.
Barrick presented the technology they are using to operate rigs from the surface. They also had people talking about their mine rescue teams. The employees from the mines talked about engineering, operations technology, and safety. They had talked about how important their jobs are beneficial to the mine.
The freshman class went to different stations.
“Together with Newmont, Barrick, SSR Mining-Marigold Mine, and Coeur, the Freshmen rotated to sessions on Mine Maintenance, Engineering, Geology, Environmental, Process, Mine Operations, and Digital Technology Safety,” said Fifield.
