Gary Horky is the man behind the camera at community events and the voice of Buckaroo radio. Horky, the owner of the local radio station, runs Today’s Best Country on 92.7 and Pure Gold on 104.5, his own website, and a Facebook page that updates the community on local and high school events.

Horky moved to Winnemucca for a short period from Henderson, NV, in 2013 and then moved back to Henderson in early 2014. After receiving a call that KWNA was up for grabs, he and his wife packed their bags and made the move. Shortly after the move, he instantly fell in love with this community, and he renamed the station to Buckaroo Radio. Horky is always sure to give back to the community and shows his immense love for our community.

“I was always taught by my dad to give back to the community, no matter what,” said Horky. “This community is very important to me, I fell in love with it in a very quick order. I love the people and the businesses here. I love Lowry High School Sports and the administration up there as well.”

Horky is not only a broadcaster, but he is also a basketball referee for Division 1 colleges and will often ref the high school basketball games in the area.

Horky did not originally plan on going into the broadcasting business, but went to college for hotel administration. After years of his father-in-law talking about broadcasting, Gary decided to go out on a limb and try it.

“I didn’t know a single term; it was intimidating at first, but I stuck with it, and I love it,” said Horky.

Gary recently trained Marcos Solis, a former Lowry graduate, and showed him the ropes of Buckaroo Radio. Solis is currently in New York attending Broadcasting school.

Horky is working with two high school kids at the moment as he trains them as interns. For those interested in broadcasting, Gary welcomes anyone interested and highly encourages them to stop by, and he is willing to give a tour of the station along with a breakdown of how everything works.
