The defending girl’s basketball state champs have done nothing but work hard and consistently win games for an undefeated season. This past weekend the Lady Bucks blew out Spring Creek and Elko on their home courts.

“We came out very strong and eager to keep our winning streak going. the motivation against Spring Creek came from a lot of past years where the Spartans really took it to us. It was our turn to get back. Against Elko, the atmosphere is always a good one. It was a great feeling being able to beat Elko in their own gym,” said Alyssa Dendary.

So far this season the Lady Bucks are averaging 43.8 points per game. Dendary leads the team averaging 10 points a game followed by Jillian Albright with six.

“We have been playing extremely well this season, especially this weekend. Elko and Spring Creek are tough places to play. We are all so happy to be undefeated in the league, we have worked for it. But from here on out we need to be focused, we could anywhere from 1-4 games this season,” said Albright.

Coach Chelsea Cabatbat, along with assistant coaches Tammy Pollock, Debbie Connors, and Vince Mendiola, is constantly pushing the girls to do their best and never let an opponent outwork them.

“We know what we need to do to prepare for Spring Creek on Friday, and we’ll take it from there one step at a time. Spring Creek has been going to the State tournament for a long time and our goal right now is to finally knock them out of it and keep marching forward,” added Albright.

Every day at practice they get better and push themselves to the brink.

“In preparation for zone, we are looking to step into the gym each and every day and continue to put in hard work. Working on the little things and fine-tuning our game. I’m excited to continue our success and get to where we want to be in two weeks,” said Dendary.

The Bucks are currently sitting in first place for the north. They will be traveling to Fallon for the regional playoffs. On Friday, they will play Spring Creek. If they can pull off yet, another win, they will play the winner of the Fallon and Elko game for seeding at State.

State will be held at Silverado High School and Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
